Sky has extended its satellite capacity agreement with SES into the next decade, maintaining direct-to-home distribution to millions of households in the UK and Ireland.
Under the new multi-year agreement, Sky will continue to use capacity at SES’s 28.2 degrees East orbital position for its satellite television services.
The renewal is significant given Sky’s continuing migration towards IP delivery through Sky Glass and Sky Stream. Sky nevertheless says satellite remains an important part of its distribution strategy.
“As we give customers more choice in how they access Sky, satellite continues to play an important role in how we deliver our services to customers across the UK and Ireland,” said Nick Herm, Group Chief Operating Officer at Sky.
The latest agreement extends a relationship dating back to 1988 and follows several previous capacity renewals.
