TV Recordings Gone?

If your Humax PVR reports a hard-drive error, follow this step-by-step checklist to diagnose and fix it. Read the whole list first and back up any accessible recordings (USB or network) before destructive steps. (Not all Humax Recorders have this transfer function)

• 1) Power cycle: switch the PVR off, unplug from mains for 2–5 minutes, then plug in and boot. This clears transient faults. 

• 2) Firmware & soft reset: check for and install the latest Humax firmware, then perform a factory reset via Menu → Installation / Setup → Factory Reset (don’t select “Format HDD” yet unless you’re willing to lose recordings). 

• 3) Run built-in disk checks and attempt format: use the system’s Storage or Maintenance menu to run an HDD test; if it reports OK try the Format/Initialise option to rebuild the filesystem. If format fails, note the error. 

Clicking or Jamming Sounds? 

• 4) Reseat or inspect connections (out of warranty only): unplug, open the case carefully, check SATA/data and power connectors for corrosion or loose pins, re-seat cables, then power up. Some users fix recognition problems this way. 

• 5) Replace the drive if necessary: choose a compatible SATA drive (same form factor and within tested capacity limits for your model), install and allow the Humax to format it. Many Humax boxes accept standard SATA drives but watch model-specific size/format caveats. 

• 6) Advanced repair: community tools and “maintenance mode” (fix-disk utilities) can sometimes repair a read-only filesystem and save recordings — proceed only if comfortable and after reading instructions.
